Binge Watching – Winter is Coming

Back to the story

The next six days of the holidays were laying on my couch with Dimples, watching Game of Thrones, which I had never seen before, drinking wine and loving each other. Reveling in the aftermath of an amazing holiday. First off let me say that I now fully understand the intoxication and addiction that Game of Thrones can bring to a person’s life. I wasn’t a believer at first, but I was entranced by it by the end of episode 1, season 1 and wasn’t able to stop watching it. It was as if it was waiting just for me to turn it back on. I ate, drank, slept, Game of Thrones and I couldn’t get enough of it. Kind of the same feeling I was having about Dimples; I couldn’t get enough of either.

The days were spent on the couch, with the frigid winter air outside and the warmth of safety of being in the arms of the man I loved. Candles were lit, lights were dim and the cast, crew, special effects, accents, characters, costumes of Game of Thrones had me mesmerized and I knew I was hooked. We cooked dinner together, ordered lunch and stayed in relaxed clothes and lounged the days away. I began talking as if I was a character in Game of Thrones. Everything became a reference to the show, my life became somewhat of a reflection of the Great War. Winter was here, no longer coming and I was safe and warm and loved and no longer had to fight my way for a spot at the table.

If you don’t watch Game of Thrones, you should. There are a lot of life lessons that can be learned and put into effect from watching the show. Including but not limited to fighting to the death. Sounds morbid I know, but just imagine having your children fight over the last waffle. If they had to fight to the death would that waffle still be as important to them? Interesting theory right? And what about adultery? It’s common place and even pushed upon when you don’t feel like sleeping with your betrothed. How awesome would it be to send them on their way when you have a headache? Not a bad idea huh? And then you have the manipulation and espionage of formulating a plan and seeing it through. Like getting a new job; what if you had to get rid of a person already in your dream job, all you’d have to do is know the right people and formulate your master plan and set all the seeds into motion. Maybe not the best references to live life, but you get my drift.

We watched the whole series over the course of those six days and I couldn’t have asked for a better holiday break. Then before you knew it, New Year’s Eve was upon us. And you know what that means right? Out with the old, in with the new! I just didn’t realize I may be part of the plan that is the “Out with the old”.
